This Should Be Good — a video podcast with Bishop Michael Martin and Andy Pfeiffer

Before becoming Bishop of Charlotte, Bishop Martin was a high school teacher and basketball coach—the kind who stuck around after practice to actually talk with, and listen to, you. Put simply, he cared.

He grew up in Baltimore, the only boy among four kids, and joined the Franciscan friars at seventeen. What’s a Franciscan? It means he’s chosen to follow in the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi and taken the vows of poverty, chastity, obedience, (and podcasting) … or keeping life simple. This shapes how he sees just about everything.

As an eighth grader growing up in Buffalo, NY, Andy adamantly opposed going to an all-boys Catholic school. Enter Father Mike, the admissions director at St. Francis High School. Father Mike convinced Andy’s mother he would become a better person if he went to St. Francis. He was probably right, but to this day, Andy refuses to admit it.

After four years of being taught, coached, and mentored by Father Mike, the two formed a relationship that focused less on how Andy frequently skipped church, and more on how he should be using his God-given talent for good—despite being in advertising. In fact, this is why we have the podcast.
